Dr. Yaqoob-ul Hassan is a Research Analyst at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses. His areas of research includes Pakistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Political Islam. He has a Masters in Political Science from the University of Kashmir. He completed his PhD from Jamia Millia Islamia and his thesis is titled “Pakistan-US Relations after 9/11: An Analytical Study”. Dr. Hassan was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Istanbul University, Turkey, where he worked on a paper titled “Clash of Islamic and Secular Identities: A Comparative Study between Pakistan and Turkey”. He is currently co-authoring a book on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Talks with Taliban: war by other means

The situation in Pakistan today is very fragile. Despite the progress on the democratic front, there is a sense of helplessness on how to tackle the menace of terrorism.
