Ashok Behuria Speaks to ANI on Pakistan’s Security Breaches Along LoC

August 23, 2012

Research Fellow, IDSA, Dr Ashok Behuria was interviewed by ANI on the issue of ceasefire violations by Pakistan security forces along the LoC. He held that the violations were quite natural during this part of the year to provide cover for militants infiltrating into Kashmir. However, the scale and magnitude of such incidents are on the increase since last few years. Moreover, the discovery of a 400 metre-long tunnel along the Samba sector, reported reopening of militant training camps in Pak Occupied Kashmir and nabbing of militants in Kashmir indicate that there could be a renewed effort from the Pakistani side to revive militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. Such actions on the ground militate against the official commitment from the Pakistani side to pursue the path of peace with India. If Pakistan is serious about normalising its relations with India, it should put a stop to such activities, he held.
