Associate Fellow, MP-IDSA, Dr. Md. Muddassir Quamar’s co-authored chapter on ‘Saudi Arabia and the Millennium Development Goals’ has been published in the volume titled ‘Economics of G20: A World Scientific Reference’, edited by John Whalley and Manmohan Agarwal, and published by World Scientific Publishing, Singapore.
Even before the adoption of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had achieved significant success in meeting most of the targets. Except in the area of gender equality and women’s empowerment, the Saudi government has been quite successful in its achievements on the seven other MDGs. Despite the lag on issues regarding women, the authorities have managed to achieve significant progress in several of the other MDGs, such as poverty eradication, reduction of malnourishment, provision of universal primary education, and reductions in child and maternal mortality, writes Dr. Quamar.
