New Delhi: The Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) has been ranked 55th amongst the top think tanks world wide (non US), as per the 2013 Global Go To Think Tank Index published by The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania. TTCPS carries out a ranking of think tanks involving all the think tanks in the world, on an annual basis.
IDSA stands 10th amongst the top 45 think tanks in China, India, Japan and the Republic of Korea. It is ranked 38th amongst top 64 Defense and National Security Think Tank worldwide and ranks 23rd out of 40 top government affiliated think tanks.
IDSA also appears in the index’ list of top think tanks to watch out for, attaining 21st position out of the top 80 think tanks listed.
In the year 2013, 6,826 think tanks from 182 countries were invited to participate in the process. 1,947 individuals from 120 countries participated. 171 think tanks were nominated as the world’s top think tanks.
Think tanks were nominated and ranked in 47 categories. 15 prominent Indian think tanks, including Observer Research Foundation, United Service Institution of India, Centre for Policy Research etc were nominated for the 2013 Global Go To Think Tank Index (GGTTI) which is in its seventh year of existence. TTCSP conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and civil societies around the world.
The index is designed to identify and recognize centers of excellence in all the major areas of public policy research, which can be used by academics, journalists, donors and the public to connect with the leading centers of the public policy research around the world.
