Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether India and Bangladesh have agreed to redraw their borders;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken for amicable settlement of disputes and to improve the bilateral relations between the two countries?

(a) & (b) At the fourth India – Bangladesh Joint Boundary Working Group meeting held in November 2010 in New Delhi, both sides had agreed to undertake joint survey to address the outstanding land boundary issues. In implementation of this decision, joint surveys of outstanding land boundary areas are being conducted.

(c) A Joint Communiqué issued during the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India in January 2010, outlined the major areas of cooperation between India and Bangladesh. Implementation of the Joint Communiqué is currently underway. The momentum in bilateral relations has been maintained through high level exchanges of visits. These include from India, the visit of Commerce & Industry Minister (April 23-24, 2011), Vice-President (May 05-06, 2011), External Affairs Minister (July 6-8, 2011) and Home Minister (July 29-30, 2011), and from Bangladesh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs (November 10-11,2010 & February 22-24, 2011), the Minister of Commerce(October 21-24, 2010, February 04-06, 2011& July 23, 2011) and the Minister of Planning (May 06-07, 2011).
