Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the agreements signed/entered into with Bangladesh during the last two years; and
(b) the benefits likely to accrue as a result thereof?
ANSWER THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI S. M. KRISHNA)
(a) The following agreements have been signed/renewed with Bangladesh during the last two years.
(i) Trade Agreement was renewed on February 9, 2009.
(ii) Bilateral Investment Promotion & Protection Agreement was signed on February 9, 2009.
(iii) Protocol on Inland Water Trade and Transit was renewed on March 24, 2009 for two years.
(iv) Protocol on operation of Bus service between Dhaka-Agartala was extended for two years w.e.f. July 09, 2009.
(v) Protocol on operation of Bus service between Delhi-Kolkata was extended for two years w.e.f. October 16, 2009.
(vi) Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters was signed on January 11, 2010.
(vii) Agreement on Combating International Terrorism, Organised Crime and Illicit Drug Trafficking was signed on January 11, 2010.
(viii) Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons was signed on January 11, 2010.
(ix) Cultural Exchange Programme was signed on January 11, 2010.
(x) MoU on Cooperation in Power Sector was signed on January 11, 2010.
(b) The agreements seek to enhance bilateral trade and investments, facilitate inland water transit and trade, facilitate the movement of passengers of the two countries, enhance cooperation in Power Sector, increase cultural exchanges and also strengthen cooperation in counter terrorism and security related matters.
