Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFRAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether Ferozpur-Hussainwala Border was ever opened for trade earlier;
(b) if so, the reasons for closing this border;
(c) whether the Government proposes to open/re-open Ferozpur-Hussainwala International Border for trade; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI S.M. KRISHNA)

(a) & (b) Yes. The border checkpost at Hussainiwala in District Ferozepur, Punjab was closed after the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

(c) No such proposal has been conveyed to Pakistan.

(d) Does not arise.
