Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to satate :-

(a) whether any high level meeting took place with Pakistan’s President or Prime Minister recently;

(b) if so, the details of such discussions;

(c) whether any outstanding issues concerning India had been discussed, including the issue of State-sponsored terrorism by Pakistan;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Prime Minister met President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, on the sidelines of NAM Summit in Tehran on August 30, 2012. The then External Affairs Minister Shri S.M.Krishna called on the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan during his visit to that country from September 7-9, 2012 for the review of the second round of the Resumed Dialogue process.

(b) to (e)Various aspects of our bilateral ties were discussed during these meetings, and in particular our core concerns regarding terrorism emanating from Pakistan’s territory and territory under its control. During the meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Tehran, Prime Minister underlined our terrorism related concerns, and also pressed for an expeditious and successful conclusion of the trial relating to those involved in the Mumbai attacks which is under way in Pakistan. Prime Minister underlined that action by Pakistan in this sphere, would be a major confidence building measure and would help bridge the trust deficit. This message was reiterated by External Affairs Minister to the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan during his visit to Pakistan in September this year.
