Will the Minister of SPACE be pleased to state:-

(a) whether National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) provides data for natural resource and environment management;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether NRSC adequately coordinated with various agencies for effective implementation of Geographic Information System (GIS) application projects;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) provides data of varied spatial resolution (ranging from 360 meter to 1 meter) acquired from Remote Sensing Satellites to various ministries, departments, academic and private users for natural resources and environment management. NRSC also provides thematic maps derived from remotely sensed data to the user departments for natural resources and environment management.

(c) Yes, Sir.

(d) NRSC works in close coordination with various ministries, agencies and partner institutions in implementation of Geographic Information System (GIS) application projects, for monitoring and management of natural resources and environment. Some of these projects include Biodiversity characterization at landscape level for Department of Biotechnology; Wetland inventory for Ministry of Environment & Forest; Water Resource Information System for Ministry of Water Resources; National Urban Information System for Ministry of Urban Development; Tea Area Development and Management for Ministry of Commerce; Groundwater prospect zones, Wasteland change analysis and Watershed Development Programme for Ministry of Rural Development; Mining Information System for Ministry of Mines; Space based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) with respective State Governments. NRSC also provides a variety of free web-GIS services through its BHUVAN website and significantly contributes to NSDI (National Spatial Data Infrastructure) programme coordinated by Department of Science and Technology (DST).
